You can’t bring the best YOU to your business and the impact you so deeply desire to make if you don’t take care of you.
As the lyrics go “You don’t know what you got till it’s gone,” most of us take our health and energy for granted until we are hit over the head and forced to pay attention.
While your body has remarkable resilience, if you ignore the subtle signs and whispers your body tries to tell you long enough, those gentle whispers eventually turn into a loud storm.
That was me! In my early 20s, I consider myself a peak performer. I would push myself and my body to such extremes in order to achieve my goals until I would burnout. I also had a very superficial view of health that was based only on my appearance and weight.
As a result, my immunity crashed, I was sick all the time, my relationship with food wasn’t healthy, my workouts would be so demanding I had little to no energy for anything else, and my energy was like a pendulum swinging from one extreme to the next.
In my new age, I’ve learned to have healthy love and respect for myself and how I take care of myself. And this shift began when I started to view my health as how I felt energetically physically (body), emotionally (feelings) and mentally (thoughts).
Now, I want you to imagine the impact this will have in your business if you are relaxed, energized, optimistic and refreshed physically and emotionally on a daily basis.
If you can relate to having your energy swing like a pendulum, here are 3 easy steps that you start paying attention to your body’s guidance what the very next step you need to take to better care for yourself with unconditional love.
Physical & MentalBody Scan Lie down comfortably on your back and close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths to get really comfortable.
Focus your attention on each part of your body starting with your feet, legs, stomach, chest, arms, neck and head. Do you feel ease or unease, relaxation or tension in your body? What mental baggage are you carrying?
Pay attention to any aches, pains, stiffness, soreness or other signals your body may be signaling. I recommend 5 minutes.
Then focus your attention on your thoughts, emotions and feelings. Where do you feel drained, stressed, afraid, anxious or worried?
Space This is your time to be silent and listen to the guidance your body’s inner wisdom by asking,
“What’s the number one thing I need to do to take care of myself today? What changes do I need to make feel more energy? What is the 1 action you can take every day?”
This time is only for listening so be patient with yourself and any messages your receive. It’s about creating the space and trust for your inner guidance to lead.
Cause & Effect Get a journal to develop your awareness on the cause and effect your actions and habits are having on your energy levels.
Take time to briefly check in with your body how you feel after eating every meal or snack you eat, how you feel after you exercise, or how you feel if you have been sitting behind a desk for too long. Write down your findings.
Do you notice any patterns come up for you?
As you go through this process, notice how you start to think and feel differently when you take the time to renew your health and energy?
Every time you take a moment to care for yourself, you build a stronger level of trust and commitment within yourself.
Creating wealth and abundance doesn’t only equate monetarily. As my dad used to say, “If you don’t have your health, you got nothing. Start now when you’re young.”
So next time you think of taking care of your health later…think again ;)
