June 10, 2013 marked a big turning point in my life. I remember the day like it was just yesterday…
It was a Monday morning. I just made a cup of coffee as I sat down in my cubicle at my corporate job at that time. I was typing away as I was reflecting...
I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Even after one glass of beer or wine, the very next day I energetically felt sluggish, fatigued and aches in my joints.
In that moment I had a random thought, “What if I stopped drinking?” A huge surge of energy and heart expansion filled every cell of my being. It felt like a breath of fresh air...
That’s when a light bulb came on - let’s do an experiment! I gave myself a 30-day challenge to not drink any alcoholic beverages to see how I felt. If I didn’t notice any differences, I could go back and enjoy the tasty beverages if I wished to do so… Challenge Accepted!
After 30 days, I felt as if a helmet of mental fog had completely dissolved. Not only did I have a new found level of clarity, this began transforming how I was maintaining and sustaining my energy.
Because I was feeling so well, I thought to myself, “Let’s keep going!” I decided to continue 60 days and 90 days.
After 90 days...I knew I wanted to integrate this as part of my ongoing lifestyle. I still went out with friends and attended events. Only now, my drink of choice was mineral water with either lemon, lime or cucumber (put it in a cocktail glass and I was good to go!).
This was only the beginning. Because I was drinking more water and fully hydrated, I slept better. I also noticed a big impact food had on my energy level. I even experienced food hangovers! Yikes!
Over the course of the last two years I gradually started cleaning up my diet by adding better quality foods. I started adding green smoothies for breakfast, organic veggies, salads and grains for lunch and dinner.
Slowly fast food, deep-fried food, processed food, breads, pizzas, sweets, meats, poultry and fish were a thing of my past.
I am fully aware that I tend to be a bit hardcore. The extreme changes I made in my life and in my diet felt right for me. I am never about imposing my beliefs and values on others.
That’s personally not my style. We each individually have different preferences and therefore, need to act congruently with our individual needs and beliefs. ;)
However, I do challenge you to take your energy to the next level for YOU!
